Who We Are

Avni Gupta-Kagan has over 20 years of experience working to improve education outcomes for children on a range of issues including human capital management, leadership development, strategic planning, and K-12 curriculum.

Avni is the co-founder of Avem Education Partners, a Human Capital Partner with the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy, and a strategy consultant for Global School Leaders and a number of other organizations on issues of school leadership and human capital. Previously, Avni served as an Executive Director at New Leaders, leading the design, development and implementation of several national programs. She completed the New Leaders program, served as an Assistant Principal in the DC Public Schools, and was a middle school teacher and school founder.

Avni was a Pahara-Next Gen Fellow and is the treasurer of the Board of Trustees for the Richland Library.

Avni has a Masters in Ed. Admin. from Trinity University, a J.D. from Yale Law School, and a B.A. from Yale College.

Emily brings over 20 years of experience in education, specializing in leadership development and professional learning.

Emily co-founded Avem Education Partners where she supports organizations such as Instruction Partners, the New Teacher Center, and Education for Change. Previously, Emily was the VP of Schools for Innovate Public Schools, overseeing a leadership training program for over 75 school leaders in the Bay Area. She was a school leader for 8 years, including serving as the principal of Aspire’s ERES Academy, a K-8 school in Oakland, which won the California Title 1 Academic Achievement Award and implemented a blending learning model that was featured as one of Ed Week’s “Top 10 elementary schools to visit.” She began her educational career as a 7th grade English teacher through Teach for America.

She has a Masters in Education Policy and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education, a Masters in Administration through New Leaders, and a B.A. from Duke University.

How We Met

We met in 2007 while training to be principals through New Leaders in D.C.

14 years, 6 kids, and many long education conversations later, we had the chance to collaborate on a project.

We loved working together, so we decided to launch this partnership.
